Newsletter T3 2012

Room 9 Class Newsletter
Term 3 2012

Dear Parents,
Room 9 Programme for Term  will be:
Maths:
For numeracy we will be continue our multiplication and division strand and then we will be covering the proportion and ratio strand. We will use the Olympic Games as the context for these strands.
The strands work will explore aspects of measurement and geometry.
Basic Facts
We will continue to use the new sets of basic facts cards. The students will bring a set of these cards home for homework. They need to learn these cards. When they know these they are to bring these back to school to be tested on.  They will be tested on Fridays but should have these cards at school EVERY  DAY. These have taken a lot of money and time to make up so could all children please look after these.
Religious Education:
The first week we will begin the Sacrament Strand. We will also cover the Prayer and Church strands later this term.
Literacy:
Reading: We are working on key words, the comprehension skill of being able to infer (read between the lines), summarising and also asking and answering different types of questions. We will use one text for the whole week. Therefore the books the children are bringing home are not the ones we have read in class. The books they bring home are for enjoyment and to help them get reading mileage.

Writing process: We will be using the persuasive writing formats. The children will complete their poetry unit with Mrs Page and then work on an Author study later on in the Term.
Inquiry:
This terms Unit for the year is an integrated one that explores: Why do people all over the world participate in cultural and sporting activities?” We will use the Context of the Olympic Games and our own cultural heritage to explore this question.
You can follow our discoveries and decision making on our blogsite  http://room9shsinv.blogspot.com/

Physical Education / Health:
This term we will focus on Dance and Jump Jam. We have PE on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. (These are the only two days they are to wear sports uniform unless they have a note or there is a special event.)
